convertion of short audio files into different format creates bad results

VLC 3.0.16, Windows 7 64 bit - last update, GTX 980 (video card), Asus Xonar D2X (audio card)

Hello.

I try to convert short wav-files into ogg-files and noticed that very short files (1 second or less) always have their beginning and ending cut away, sometimes adding in a sharp sound clipping effect.

Original Audio -----------------------------

Long_1_WAV_Original Short_1_WAV_Original Short_2_WAV_Original

OGG Convertion ------------------------------

Long_1_OGG Short_1_OGG Short_2_OGG

MP3 Convertion -------------------------------

Long_1_MP3 Short_1_MP3 Short_2_MP3

As you can hear, Mp3 is pretty messed up, even for the sligthly longer audio. These issues dont happen for me if I convert audio files that last over 1 second. At least not in this noticable manner.

I converted all these files as follow:

  1. open VLC player with any audio file
  2. go to > Media > Convert/Save
  3. drag the 3 original files into file selection
  4. press Convert/Save button
  5. choose profile
  6. set append -converted to filename
  7. Start

I did a reset of preferences beforehand and reinstalled VLC. I also converted files one by one. Didnt help.
