Playing surround sound videos on stereo headphones(3.5mm jack) makes voices louder on the right than on the left.

I am on the latest version of vlc for windows(3.0.16).

To make sure it wasn't my preferences, I reset them using the shortcut as described: https://wiki.videolan.org/Report_bugs

I haven't tried a nightly build but I doubt it will make a difference considering how long this bug has existed.

I also couldn't find any other issue here with the bug I'm describing, closed or open.

The bug happens when playing a video file with 5.1(I think?) with my earphones plugged in and therefore the audio > stereo mode is set to Headphones. This stereo mode seems to make voices louder in the right ear than in the left. Manually setting the stereo mode to Stereo fixes the audio imbalance. This is completely reproducible to me with having reinstalled windows a couple times for unrelated reasons and having watched a lot of videos with the same issue every time the Headphones stereo mode appeared.

I have found other people reporting the exact same issue on the vlc subreddit going back as much as 2 years:

If you need any further info, feel free to ask.
