Feature Request: There currently seems to be no way to count the number of items total and number of items selected in a playlist or in the media library.

(I apologize for accidentally posting this in the wrong section before. I was defaulted there, and have since closed it there.) There currently seems to be no way to count the number of items total and number of items selected in a playlist or in the media library.

Description

In some other media players, you can make sure you have properly added all of your files to the playlist by highlighting them to count them or looking at a total number of items, something like 492 items total (340 selected) in the status bar. VLC does not seem to be able to do that currently, and it is a shame because it seems like it could be a simple feature depending on how in-depth the feature was implemented.

Expected behavior

A count of the playlist, the media library, and playlists or groupings within the media library is performed each time one of the lists is updated. The total is then displayed in the status bar. A count of the number of items selected by the user in the playlist or media library is also performed, then displayed next to the total number in the status bar. This should be interface-specific, and options should be added to each interface (playlist and media library, discs, etc.) somewhat like the toolbar tabs in the Customize Interface... dialog allow you to add time counters. For example, a Playlist tab inside the Customize Interface... dialog, a Media Library tab, etc. It would be helpful if each interface remembered what was selected when you switched between Playlist and Media Library so that you could compare there too, to make sure all the files are in their proper places in the playlists (in case you deleted something or some error occurred during import of a playlist. I was having a problem with only 28 tracks out of a 15+ hour playlist were being imported somehow, and I ended up manually editing the playlist in a text editor. Still not sure what was wrong, but that was what inspired me to go looking for this feature.) This could also be a good opportunity to add a feature for saving presets for metadata displayed in the details of the library and playlist interfaces, which could then be selected during normal usage inside the right-click menu, but that could be a separate feature.
