VLC SMB on OpenVPN server coming up as empty directoy
Hi, I have a home server set up with OpenVPN into my family's home. Initially, this worked perfectly fine with VLC. Both homes have Gigabit fibre optics, so speed was never an issue.
More recently, it was revealed that VLC had been broken, and could not access the data. With some trial & error, we were able to conclude:
- Only the main directory cannot be listed. If we manually type the folders as individual connections, that works.
- Other applications such as "X-plore File Manager" and "FE File Explorer" do not have the same issues accessing the root file directory using the same SMB configuration.
The configuration:
- Server: 172.x.x.x (OpenVPN assigned IP)
- Username: (Blank)
- Folder path: (Blank)
- Server name: 172.x.x.x (OpenVPN assigned IP)
Of course we also tried both a user account from the server side and an Administrator account, just to test the connectivity. Both generated the same result.
Currently I'm testing this via a fresh BlueStacks Android emulator, through a Windows management PC at the remote home. As I cannot physically be there.
I also tried opting into the VLC Beta and reinstalling with the Beta installation - same result.
Not sure if there's anything to help resolve this, but it would be nice.
