MKV video flickering when changing volume or pausing video with media keys on keyboard in VLC

VLC version is 3.0.9.2 Vetinari on Linux Mint 20.2 MATE edition Steps to reproduce: Open a mkv video with an audio Change the volume or pause the video What happened: the video flickers once What should happen: the video does not flicker, the same way as when I use the on screen buttons.
