Sound controls are slow

I am using vlc media player v3.0.16 on windows . The internal sound that you can control through up and arrow down buttons are a little unresponsive. Issue is that between every press of button I need to wait around half a second to press it again. Any input in that time period is just ignored. Because of that I can't change volume rapidly.
