Playback of 32:9 mp4's duplicates video horizontally

When playing a recording from shadowplay (regardless of the shadowplay settings), somehow VLC duplicates the video horizontally. Playback of the same video in the Windows default player (with HEVC codec) runs without any problem whatsoever. Uploading to Google Drive also shows the video as expected.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Use example video attached and open in VLC.

Failed workarounds / fixes:

  • resetting VLC to defaults
  • manually changing the aspect ratio
  • cropping etc. but the VLC output remains a duplicate.

  • Please note that the screenshot was not compressed / stretched this is the way it displays in VLC. The screenshot was taken from the VCL video playback, taking a snapshot from the VLC context menu crashes VLC
