Speakers Popping at start of a new Video

When a new video starts in VLC it makes the laptop speakers pop very loudly. This happens when:

-when moving from one video to another in a random playlist. -even when the laptop and/or VLC is muted.

VLC version:3.0.11.1 Vetinari (Intel 64bit) MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) running MacOS Big Sur 11.1

I upgraded to the new VLC version because after upgrading to Big Sur VLC would not play when streaming to AppTV. The 3.0.11.1 upgrade did fix that issue but then the popping started.
