Loss of sound after pause and resume on Mac

Started when I switched to version 3. Happens on two of my macbooks, 2013 Air and 2017 Macbook Pro, both running Catalina.

Steps to reproduce:

Movie resumes but without sound. If I try to close VLC, it freezes, so have to force quit.

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
