VLC on Macbook pro, sound cuts out sometimes when resuming from pause

Mac 10.15.4 - VLC 3.0.10

Sometimes when resuming from pause while watching mostly MKV files the sound does not resume. When pause/unpause again, still no sound. Switch sound output devices...still no sound. Another thing that is interesting is that if you try to close VLC normally it will not close after this bug has been triggered. You have to either wait a really long time for the sound to resume or force quit and restart the app.
