Playout of Interlaced HEVC streams shown at half vertical resolution
HEVC encoders which use picture types that are field based will not render properly in VLC. The individual fields are treated as pictures, resulting in the video being half-height and played out at twice the frame rate.
To reproduce:
./bin/vlc-osx-static ~/Downloads/ateme-1080i-frame-seitiming-on.ts
This problem will occur with streams created from various HEVC encoders, including libx265 and Ateme HEVC broadcast encoders (e.g. model CM5000).
Clip will be uploaded to streams.videolab.org shortly.
