Freezing of video output (zoom change and repeat), Windows thumbnail preview iconization
Hello,
I've used VLC 3.0.6 on following system:
Acer Aspire E5-575_1094_1.15 Windows 10.0.17763 64bit Intel Core i3-6157U CPU @ 2.40GHz with iGPU
I have experienced such severe problems with video playback that I reverted to 2.x version after MANY hours of finding a solution with 3.x version. EVERY video playback alternative had issues, none worked flawlessly - in contrast to previous versions. You must have changed A LOT internally. Release notes tell something about DirectX11 support, but DirectX9 also had issues.
What happens? Many different things that ALL do not happen in previous versions.
-
Video freezes after automatic repeat. The last frame of video will show forever while playback not really starts from the beginning. ALWAYS.
-
Video freezes when changing aspect ratio setting rougly every 5th time (like I remember). Especially dramatic if in fullscreen mode as Windows as a whole freezes with last displayed frame. ONLY way to gain back control is hitting power button and activating hibernation mode and restarting PC after that. VERY annoying and deffinitely unusable.
-
When entering fullscreen mode VERY often a short delay appears after leaving this mode - Windows seems to have to restore it's output and all windows that are minimized (which are a lot on my machine) lose their thumbnail previews and display only the program icon inside them. NEVER happens with 2.x, very often happens with 3.x.
After hours of testing with DirectX11, DirectX9, OpenGL, GDI, DirectDraw and whatever you offer I was not able to get VLC in a really usable way of working. With other settings I was not able to see 4K or 3gp video format and similar problems. Only solution was a switch back to 2.x.
What is good in 3.x?
New scaled interface.
What is bad?
Interface scaling not setable.
Please remove these issues - then VLC 3.x will be the good program it has been since years. Thanks for your work end your effort!
Kind regards Volker Jung
