Video effects causes memory leak which causes system crash

This issue occurs when the videos effects > image adjust > gamma levels are set to middle or higher and when the playback speed is lower to 0.5x or lower. A memory leak occurs and vlc ends up consuming up to 32 GB of memory before finally crashing Mac OS Mojave.
