Capture Audio: droplist stuck on Built-in Microphone (Mac)

Open Source > Capture > Capture Audio: droplist stuck on Built-in Microphone

I see the option to select my sound card. But when I do, it (or any other option) just flips immediately back to "Built-in Microphone".

I'm trying to stream one monitor and my sound card to do a presentation for a school.

The problem does not generate any Errors and Warnings. I also launched in über-verbose mode (/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC -vvv) but there's nothing added when I try to select another audio source.
