Improve scaling on HiDPI displays

i can confirm that on a 3000x1600 resolution LCD, where prior versions were perfectly fine, 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 are definitely not. icons are enormous, expanded to at least 150 possibly 200 pixels, with the result that the video window takes up at least 50% of the screen and cannot be shrunk any smaller.

the version installed was kindly compiled by christian from deb-multimedia. debian/testing.
