Controls Get Squished Together

VLC for Android 3.0.1 OS: Android 4.4.4 "Alcatel Onetouch Pop Icon LTE 2 A846L" smart phone.

If I start playing a video in portrait mode or landscape mode the controls are fine. When the phone is turned to landscape mode the controls are always fine. When the phone is turned from landscape mode to portrait mode, the controls get squished together with parts of the buttons overlapping each other.

I didn't notice any other posts or bug reports about this.
