Android: Implement search suggestions / results for subfolders of NAS devices

I am missing a way to search for media files in sub-folders of my NAS (Network accessible storage). In my case I am talking about a smb connected device.\ I have a large audio library on this NAS, but I need a way to search for the right tracks in VLC.\

I am not very familliar with VLC's port to android, but does the search function already allow to search on metadata, as opposed to only filenames? If not I would like to open a ticket on that too, a good search function is definitely wanted on a media-player.
