Bookmarks could be improved in many ways ... they are not really usable at the moment
Store them in the input_item structure to make them persistent (FIXME: already done if the option is autosaved)
Option to play a file from a bookmark
Ability to view all bookmarks for a file even if it's not the one currently playing (in the iteminfo dialog ? fake playlist nodes ?). Double-clicking this bookmark would start playback from it
To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information

I see here there are several requests for changes to the bookmark feature, and I see promises that it will be revised. I am going to list all my requests for changes to the bookmark feature here for your consideration. I know some of these have been requested already.-Ability to assign a hotkey to set a bookmark at the current position. The onscreen text could say "Bookmark Set" when this happens.-Bookmarks automatically saved to a file or a database. When the same media file or DVD is played again, the bookmark list is automatically retrieved.-When you stop a media file or DVD, the last play position is automatically stored. When the same media file or DVD is played again, it could prompt you to resume at the last spot or start at the beginning. This could be turned off with a user setting.-Ability for the bookmark window to show over top of the video window in fullscreen mode.-The bookmark window should remember its size, column widths and screen position, and come back to that position every time it is opened.-Ability to navigate the bookmark screen using the same keys that navigate a DVD menu (up, down, select).
The current bookmarking and hotkey bookmarks are quite limited in functionality. It would be nice if we could have bookmarks more as Website bookmarks. They should be able to be ordered, and queue points within the playlistitems should be saveable of course. What would really be great is if we could couple this saved data to "bookmark hotkeys"
I'm not sure if my problem is related to this bug, but I think so. On VLC > Tools > Bookmarks..., if I create a bookmark when the video is playing or is on pause, I'm able to double-click on it to get to the right time. But if I stop playback (click on the "Stop" button) and then play again the video (click on the "Play" button), I still see the bookmark, but a double-click on it doesn't nothing. The bookmark becomes useless.
if this feature isn't implemented yet, why is there a menu item for it? highly confusing and annoying. Btw, 5 years has passed, maybe it was about time someone actually implemented it :)
Version 2.0.1 Bookmarks can be created but can not be saved between sessions. The Bookmark can be created for a play list and used, but not saved. Tried saving the playlist and checked if saved when the program is closed.
