vlc-3.0.0, wayland, opens two windows instead of one

vlc-3.0.0 opens two windows instead of one, on wayland. one is the movie, the other is the vlc icon with the right button menu. in gnome.

gnome started like this: export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland dbus-run-session gnome-session

in weston, i see only the window with the icon and the menu, but cannot see and reach the one with the video.
