iOS: video encoded with VP9 codec is still unplayable

After VLC for iOS 2.7.8 has been released, I thought that bug #16836 (closed) was finally fixed. Indeed, the video that I provided as a test case for that bug is now displayed correctly. However, after further testing, I found that some VP9 videos still can't be played properly. Here is an example of such video, and this image shows how VLC for iOS 2.7.8 displays it on my iPad 2.

Sorry, this fix depends on more fundamental changes and will be part of the 2.8 update of VLC-iOS within a few weeks.

I am experiencing similar problem (the screen "breaks" the same way) with a recent official Android build (12-Aug-2016). Any idea when the fix would be incorporated to the Android build as well (if it is really fixed upstream)?

This bug is still present on VLC 3.0.0 and MobileVLCKit 3.0.0a51+. Also I tried to buld MobileVLCKit with "-w" option ($SCARY=no, "disable scary codecs"), but i got compile errors.

Projects that uses MobileVLCKit 2.2.2 handle these videos properly.
