Tx3g and m4v subtitles render in tiny font in iOS for VLC

The iOS VLC app renders Tx3g subtitles in m4v files in ridiculously small and unreadable font. The subtitles size also do not change when subtitle size settings are changed.

If the file is remuxed using the mkv container, then the VLC app will display the subtitles using a normal font size or what's set the app settings.

This appears to be the same issue that svaraej ran into in this forum thread: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=129876#p435395
