misplaced time tooltips over seek bar (crash gnome-shell on wayland)
VLC is misplacing its tooltips over the seek bar. They sometimes jump around on the screen.
Steps to reproduce:
- open vlc
- play any video file
- hover over seek bar
- repeat 3. until you see a misplaced tooltip. This might take just 2 tries or 200.
What happens:
tooltips showing time at mouse position on seek bar are not always placed where the mouse is, sometimes they are just at a (seemingly) random position.
What should happen:
tooltips should never be misplaced. Looks like a memory access violation to me. It should be possible to track this down with valgrind, but I can't get debugging symbols for VLC.
Additional info:
This issue happens with default vlc preferences. Nothing directly related to this issue is in vlc's verbose output (see attachment). This issue happens with any video file. In some cases this crashes gnome-shell when running with wayland backend. See [1] and [2] for details. This probably is due to trying to display the tooltip outside of vlc's window.
Affected version:
vlc-2.2.2 x86_64 on Fedora 23 from RPMFusion
