Convert/Save corrupted file

I have a HD MP4 film (1920 x 1080) of 1H20 and I have a corresponding separate .srt file and .ass file for the subtitles.

The MP4 file when put on a Data DVD disc plays well on my SONY Home DVD/BD player.

But I want to be able to play it on my television with the subtitles. Therefore I have been using VLC 2.2.2 to "convert" the original MP4 file with the .ass subtitle file with the following procedure and settings of VLC:

1 - Menu Media; Convert Save

2 - Add the .mp4 file and select the use of subtitle and add the corresponding .ass file

3 - click the Convert under Convert Save

4 - select the destination folder and the name of the output file

5 - click Create a new profile and give a name to the profile

6 - in the Encapsulation tab choose MP4/MOV

7 - in the Video Codec tab select Video and Keep the original video track

8 - in the Audio Codec tab select Audio and Keep the original audio track

9 - in the Subtitles tab select Subtitles, keep the default Codec (DVB subtitle) and select Overlay subtitles on the video

10 - click Create

11 - click Start

And then 1h30 later a get the output file:

  • The original HD MP4 file is: 1,176,187 KB

  • The size of the .ass file is: 101 KB

  • And the converted MP4 file with embedded subtitles is: 1,583,956 KB

The converted file plays well with VLC and displays the subtitles.

BUT when I put that VLC converted MP4 file on a Data DVD disc it does NOT play anymore on my SONY Home DVD/BD player with a message that the file is "corrupted".

Further analysis of the VLC converted MP4 file gives the following errors Log:

#6948 (closed).3: [h264 @ 01E060C0]illegal reordering_of_pic_nums_idc

#6948 (closed).3: [h264 @ 01E060C0]decode_slice_header error

#6948 (closed).3: [h264 @ 01E060C0]number of reference frames (0+5) exceeds max

It looks to me as a bug.

The VLC converted MP4 file should be able to play on any other DVD/BD players and not only on the VLC player.

Please can you correct that since "Convert and Save" of VLC is a very nice VLC utility.

NOTE: I am using a SONY VAIO laptop (Intel i5 @ 2.67 GHz) with Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

Many thanks in advance.
