Samsung multi window: video size incorrect

In the Samsung multi window mode on lollipop on a note 3 (would probably apply to all Samsung models), if you have split screen, for instance one app for the video and one app for taking notes, the video is taking up about 25-50% of the space available to VLC. Changing aspect ratio only makes it worse. Best fit is the best but it only uses part of the part of the screen allocated to VLC. This makes the video painstakingly and unnecessarily small.
