VLC shows a grey screen when playing a known good mpg file

I tested 2.2.0 and 2.2.1 with the same results. VLC shows a partially grey screen. This only occurs for the first few seconds，when playing a good mpg file. Version 2.1.5 doesn't not exhibit this problem. Using ffmpeg/mplayer directly doesn't have this problem either.
