Video screen capture causes VLC to crash

Mac OS X 10.10.3 VLC 2.2.1 MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) Processor 2GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB Using Built-in Display, 15.4 inch (2880 x 1800)

When I do the following, VLC crashes:

  1. File -> Open Capture Device.
  2. On the Capture tab, choose Screen as the device using the dropdown.
  3. I left the Frames per Second as the default, 5.0.
  4. Check Streaming/Saving, and click Settings...
  5. In the Streaming and Transcoding Options, choose MPEG 4 as the Encapsulation Method.
  6. For the radio button choose, choose File, and click Browse. Choose a location to save the mp4.
  7. In the Transcoding options section, check the Video checkbox, and choose h264.
  8. Leave bitrate blank, and Scale at 1, the defaults.
  9. Click Ok at the bottom right to dismiss the Streaming and Transcoding Options.
  10. Click Open at the bottom right of the Open Source dialog.
  11. Observe crash.

I can reproduce this problem consistently in 2.2.1. This was not a problem in VLC 2.1.5. I checked the 2.2 nightly build dated 20150419-0311, and it also has this problem. I checked the 3.0 nightly build dated 20150419-0111, and it does not have this problem.
