Video screen capture causes VLC to crash
Mac OS X 10.10.3 VLC 2.2.1 MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) Processor 2GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB Using Built-in Display, 15.4 inch (2880 x 1800)
When I do the following, VLC crashes:
- File -> Open Capture Device.
- On the Capture tab, choose Screen as the device using the dropdown.
- I left the Frames per Second as the default, 5.0.
- Check Streaming/Saving, and click Settings...
- In the Streaming and Transcoding Options, choose MPEG 4 as the Encapsulation Method.
- For the radio button choose, choose File, and click Browse. Choose a location to save the mp4.
- In the Transcoding options section, check the Video checkbox, and choose h264.
- Leave bitrate blank, and Scale at 1, the defaults.
- Click Ok at the bottom right to dismiss the Streaming and Transcoding Options.
- Click Open at the bottom right of the Open Source dialog.
- Observe crash.
I can reproduce this problem consistently in 2.2.1. This was not a problem in VLC 2.1.5. I checked the 2.2 nightly build dated 20150419-0311, and it also has this problem. I checked the 3.0 nightly build dated 20150419-0111, and it does not have this problem.
