Setting up file associations causes V.L.C. to crash version 2.20

Hello, when I go to set up file associations in preferences it comes up with a crash that says (This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual Way) Then Microsoft tries to fix it but it never will any way.Then I reset preferences try it again and it does the same thing. Reinstalled program version 2.20 Many times to no avail it does the same thing everything seems to work but I have to set file associations at set up of program thanks please help Much Appreciation Best Regards, Wesley
