VLC prevents windows from turning off the screen when minimized

Title says it all. I don't think I messed around with my preferences at all. Didn't find anything in the forums that pertains to that topic (maybe I didn't look hard enough). My monitor is supposed to turn off after 10mins and if VLC is running, even minimized, it will prevent the screen to turn off completely. Maybe a new feature is to add a check box for that somewhere or just have it that VLC doesn't prevent the screen to turn off accordingly to the computer's power plan if it is minimized (and paused?).
