VCR LCD simulation for Android app.

Revision : 479a289

The Android app currently dims shortly after media play back starts.

As an option, it would be a novelty for the Android app to simulate the 7-seg based LCDs of yester-year on a black background with white digits.

For video playback, flashing the LCD slowly fading in and out as the time index, current system time, volume level, and battery level are shown with time index large and centred while other day exists in the periphery.

For audio playback, keep the LCD on but, DIM with the file name and time index being played.

For video and/or audio,

  • it might be interesting to put audio bit rate and encoding in smaller red characters at the periphery
  • show volume level centred and in larger font while the user raises or lowers volume
  • towards the bottom, provide branding information in small font: app name & version.

During menu navigation,

  • only show 12 to 20 characters of a selected control in the center of the phone display while the TV shows VLC's primary UI.

  • at app start, exit print, or 2nd screen connect/disconnect scroll a salutation across; ex: "welcome to VLC"; "good bye". In the case of start, show the full UI on the TV without waiting for the message to scroll by. At exit, allow a 5 second delay to show the message.
