Atrac 3+ codec (atrp) in VLC 2.2 failing

I just downloaded both 32- and 64- bit versions of VLC 2.2 (version of 20140518) after discovering that ffmpeg has supported Atrac3+ (the format generated by Hi-MD minidisc recorders) since January.

At approximately the same date, the support for Atrac3+ was added into VLC, if I read the logs correctly.

I get the following message when trying to play an ATRAC3+ track:

Codec not supported:
VLC could not decode the format "atrp" (atrac 3+)

After checking dates, I have come to the conclusion that there is no version of VLC where this codec actually functions correctly. I would be happy to do further testing but I currently don't have the resources to do full development and/or debugging.

Of course if this is not a released feature and someone is still working on it, then I withdraw my report. But I find no indication of that at this time.

Thanks for any assistance. Stephen
