[BUG] MIDI files require me to configure setting that does not exist.
Issue description:
Well... I see a bit of a "logic fail" here. OK, so basically at first glance it seems that MIDI
files are not supported, then (after a bit of figuring out) it turns out, that they are supported (but only MID
files ...for some reason?), but in the end, they don't actually work, because they require FluidSync to be set up and the error message is pointing to a place in settings that do not exist. Let me show you step by step...
- The "MIDI don't work" part: As you can see,
MIDI
files are marked with a default file icon, meaning, they can't be opened (due to how UWPs work, they can't be opened from "Open with" menu either - otherwise Windows wouldn't mark them with the default file icon). - The "Nevermind, it actually works" part: After using file open menu in VLC, I managed to open it. (Although only
MID
file for some reason, despiteMID
andMIDI
being the same format, as far as I know). - The "NOPE!" part: Well... this. Why can't I just set it up, then? Because that message is pointing me towards
Settings / Input / Codecs / Audio codecs / FluidSync
(I know it since I already set it up in Linux once). The problem is that this location does not exist in settings. Sooooo, yeah. A bit of a bummer.
Steps to reproduce:
- Try opening a MIDI file with the UWP version of VLC (spoiler: you'll fail).
- Try opening that file with file open menu inside VLC (spoiler: you'll fail, too).
- Rename it, so the extension is now
.mid
instead of.midi
. - Try opening that file with the UWP version of VLC (spoiler: you'll fail ONCE AGAIN).
- Try opening that file with file open menu inside VLC.
- See the same error as I did in part (a. k. a. "The "NOPE!" part:").
