cant connect to mac smb share without enabling windows fileshare

I am trying to connect to my mac from my apple tv 4k 2022. This works only when I enable the windows fileshare option thing that stores my password insecurely (whatever that means?). I don't really understand why that is necessary? I can connect from another mac to this one without having to enable this option. But VLC always tells me that I need to authenticate, after entering the same credentials that work with this option turned on.

The prefer smb1 option does not impact this.
