Cannot play back symlinks accessed on CIFS/SMB share

Cannot playback symlink accessed from CIFS/SMB share even though other devices work fine with the link. Underlying OS is OSX, underlying FS is APFS/HFS. Links are specified with relative addressing. Player crashes when attempting to access.

To replicate: Place a media file on a SMB share. Make symlinks to the file also on the share using relative addressing. Try to play back the symlinks from VLC iOS by accessing through the SMB share, the player will crash.
