appletv local network generic server option missing

The option for me to connect to a custom generic server from the appletv app doesn’t show up if there’s no discoverable server on the network, even if I have a connection saved. If I join my ipad to the same network and open vlc, the option eventually appears and I can then connect to my saved connection.
