Multiple problems with "Local Network"
Am unable to access files on computer via Local Network
. VLC detects and shows the computer on LAN but gets stuck in an authentication loop and doesn't allow access to shared folders. I enter user name and leave the password blank (since the account doesn't have any password set) in the authentication section but VLC doesn't accept or move past it.
When I access the files on LAN through a separate file explorer app (X-plore, in this case), VLC plays those files normally. But then it doesn't load / display subtitles (SRT file placed alongside the video file of same name). No such problem with files stored locally.
And then there is a quirky behaviour of the +
button. It's not clear what triggers the appearance and disappearance of this button. Sometimes it doesn't show up on first attempt. Other times, it doesn't show up until WiFi (or maybe mobile data, USB, etc.) is enabled. But once it disappears (e.g. by selecting some other category, accessing the displayed LAN server, etc.) there is no other way to bring it back except by exiting and reopening the app.
To summarize:
Unable to move past authentication window (username with blank password) for accessing files over LAN.- Subtitle files not loaded for videos accessed over LAN.
Random appearance and disappearance of the+
add network button.
Version: 3.0.96
Update (after trying v3.2.0-beta-1, as suggested by @jbk):
Have struck out the 2 of the 3 bugs above which I can no longer reproduce.
The unresolved bug is the one where VLC doesn't automatically load / display subtitles (SRT file placed alongside the video file of same name) for videos played over LAN. No such problem with files stored locally.
However, there are 2 new bugs which I encountered while trying the latest version.
Video takes around 5-10 seconds to load when played from within VLC Local Network
browser. During such time, the VLC icon keeps on rotating over a black background. No such problem when video is played over LAN from an external file manager (X-plore, in my case) where the video starts playing instantly.
Another problem is that there seems to be no way of revoking/resetting password for the saved LAN. If there is indeed a way then it's not very intuitive and am unable to figure it out.
To summarize the currently open issues:
-
Subtitle files not loaded for videos accessed over LAN.
-
Video takes 5-10s to start playing over LAN through VLC (no such problem while using external file manager).
-
No (intuitive) way to revoke/reset saved LAN password.
