I think it would be a good idea to implement 5 (or maybe even 10) seconds forward/backward skipping buttons in the audio player. This comes in very handy when hearing podcasts.

I'm missing this feature too and willing to implement it. Actually I patched the player for myself to support this (replaced the shuffle button I rarely use with a "rewind 10 seconds backwards" button). But this is only kind of a hotfix.
There is not room for new buttons in the audio player.
Also, I actually like more the feature in the video player mode that makes it possible to seek forward/backward using a gesture (dragging left/right horizontally).
@jbk, I wonder what would be the preferred approach for this feature?
I spent some time poking around the audio player mode UI and it seems to be quite complex.
Also I noticed there is already some gesture support that makes it possible to switch to the previous/next track in the playlist by dragging the picture that is representing the track left/right. (Refer to the screenshot below to see what I mean).
In VLC, applying the dragging gesture here moves to the following track (if you have multiple tracks in the playlist, which is not the case in the screenshot):
I wonder if this area/gesture could be reused to support the seeking e.g. depending on where you start the gesture (upper/lower half of the area).
I came here to request something like this (well, #1761 (closed), to be precise). I see #1761 (closed) is marked as a dupe of this, and this is marked closed by cab56ae8, so is there a way of getting the skip buttons on the lock screen now? Would happily drop the prev/next track buttons. Simple ABP Free does a nice (configurable) job of this, but it has other limitations and, frankly, I'd just rather use VLC if at all possible!
Is there any prospect of this (or #1761 (closed)) being reopened?
