Audio not resuming where it left off

I mainly use VLC to listen to audiobooks on my mobile. After updating my VLC has not been resuming where it left off, no matter what settings I use. And if I turn my screen off, the audio starts stuttering and at times all volume disappears and only starts again if I open the screen.

My VLC version for Android is 3.0.4 and my phone is Huawei Honor 9, Android version 8.0.0 if that info helps. I'm not that tech savvy to know how to get the log from the app, or very tech savvy in any sense.

But I like VLC, I use it on my computer for all videos and such. And I would hate it if I had to use something else on my phone. But if this issue persists I have no choice but to change my audio app on my phone. So please do answer quickly.
