VLC takes a long time to show files from local phone storage

I have a five favorite folders in VLC for Android. Two are links to local folders on device storage, three are to NAS SMB shares.

When phone is connected to local WiFi and NAS is accessible, browsing files in VLC works fine.

When phone is connected to network, where SMB shares are not accessible, it is impossible to use VLC file browses. Reading every folder on local device storage takes a long time and at the end no files shown.

I have latest app version from Google Play store.

My device is Samsung Galaxy A52 5G, latest original firmware with Android 12.

Also tested on my wife's Galaxy A50 and app behavior is the same.
