VLC does not remember last used paths, does not resume itself, or video playback after suspend
- in mobile (Android) version, go into some deep directory structure on external/net drive and play a video from there eg. "Browser>drive>X>Y>Z>VID.MP4"
- during the playback pause video and put the playback device to sleep or let it idle till it goes into suspend/screensaver mode
- after a while (few mins), on resumption, VLC is no longer active and has to be restarted
- on restart and navigation to the drive, it does not go to the path /X/Y/Z from which the last video was launched, but starts at "Browser>drive>" all over again
- on finding the same video it does usually remember the position within, but not always (even though the setting to remember it is checked)
3-5 are relatively recent changes/bugs, as this is the way it used to work up to 2.2
- on resuming the playback device, user would land back in the middle of the video playback that was on before suspend
- if this video were to finish, it would start to play the next one originally in line from the same directory (not from recents)
- if the external drive was disconnected in the meantime, it would land in the main interface of VLC, not device
- upon reconnecting the drive and selecting it, it would land on the last used directory, and not root
I purposefully kept the old version till now to keep this functionality intact, but was unable to keep it up due to codec support need. It does not seem to be device specific either, as I checked 2.2 and 3.0+ on two devices each with same result. It would be swell if the aforementioned functionality were reinstated, as VLC in spite of its great underlying engine and playback compatibility, has always lacked in the UI and functionality areas, and this is regress rather than progress. Not to mention the annoyance of having to do a whole app/device/path navigation each time the device idles to screensaver/suspend for a min or two.
