Rewind/fast forward seek buttons not showing up

I'm on Android (Pixel 5) and I'm trying to play all sorts of local audio files, but none of them are showing the supposedly recently added 10 second seek buttons.

Expected behavior

I'm not sure if I need to be in Android Auto mode to use these buttons (and I actually can't figure out how to enter Android Auto mode in the first place), but in any case, I was expecting these buttons to be visible in both the notification shade and in the app itself

Actual behavior

The buttons aren't showing up anywhere. I've enabled the android auto settings in the audio settings menu (although, again, I want to use these buttons just normally...).

Steps to reproduce

1. Get a pixel 5
2. install the latest VLC nightly build
3. go to settings -> audio -> Android Auto seek buttons and select that option (or don't)
4. Open an .m4a or .m4b or .flac file in the app normally (without using Android Auto)

In the audio player, the seek buttons are only showed in cover mode.

Click on (1) to switch to cover mode and the seek buttons will appear (2)

Also consider this my vote for the seek buttons to be visible in the notification dropdown too, like they are in audiobook apps

Which audiobook app?

Audible, Scribd, Libby, etc.
