Android vlc version 3.4.2 not displaying file names correctly anymore

I use newpipe to download videos to listen to on the go and usually when I select a video to play (within the newpipe app) and select vlc to play it, The file name is shown correctly as it is in the newpipe app and in my filesystem but after the playstore updated vlc for me to version 3.4.2 it now labels any media I select to play from the newpipe app as fd:// and then a seemingly random number. I uninstalled the 3.4.2 (on playstore) and downloaded version 3.3.4 (from F-droid) and the issue is fixed. Any help is appreciated if I am missing something or this is something I need to change please let me know.
