Songs on XSPF playlist cannot be played

It is my understanding that XSPF playlists are a "portable" type of playlist, in that it stores the location of tracks but also other metadata such as artist and song title which it can alternatively find to play the file back if it cannot be found in the listed location.

I've copied some songs and a XSPF playlist onto my Android phone but when trying to play songs it says track cannot be found at the listed location. I'm wondering why VLC doesn't then use the other metadata to locate the file.
