VLC player controls keep appearing on lockscreen and in notifications, even when VLC is closed
Description
I can't seem to get rid of the VLC player controls from my notifications pulldown or lockscreen. VLC is closed (at least, as far as I can seem to close it); it is no longer showing in my background apps and Force Close is greyed out in Android's Apps menu.
Swiping the notification does work to remove it temporarily, but it keeps coming back. If I swipe to remove from the notifications pulldown, then it will appear on the lockscreen the next time I wake the screen up. If I swipe to remove from the lockscreen, then it will appear in the notifications pulldown after I have unlocked. The small notification icon is not displayed (i.e. the one that is usually shown when playing a file), but the player controls still remain.
I have tried the Quit and restart application and Clear playback history options within VLC. I've tried the X button on the 4x1 mini player widget. I've even deleted the file that I was playing a few days ago, now player controls only have a play button (no pause, skip, etc.).
I don't want to outright block the notification at the OS level, because these controls are useful when something is actually playing (at least because they seem to be missing from within the VLC interface itself) but, when VLC is closed, I would prefer them not to persist. It's not useful (to me) to be permanently notified that, a few days ago, I used VLC to play a media file.
If this behaviour is tied to a setting, then it isn't obvious to me which one it is. I concede I haven't been using Android 11 for long, but I didn't have this issue on my previous Android 6 device.
I suppose there may be some privacy concern, depending on the type of media consumed, since identifiable media metadata (e.g. filename) is visible in the player controls and cannot be cleared.
Expected behavior
VLC should only show player controls in notifications and/or on the lockscreen when the VLC app is open (i.e. in the Android applications list), but not after it has been closed/removed from that list.
Actual behavior
VLC player controls remain in the lockscreen or notification pulldown, and alternate between the two when dismissed.
Steps to reproduce
(Not sure if I can reproduce exactly, as I can't get to a clean state to start again but, as far as I can recall, this is all that I have done...)
- Opened MP3 audio file
- Played in background (had Maps navigation in foreground, if important)
- Used notification controls to stop playback
- Player controls remained here, which is understandable (I might want to resume playback)
- Closed VLC from the applications list (square button in Android navigation menu)
- Pull down notifications (swipe from top of Android home screen)
- Player controls still remain
- Can be swiped away
- Lock phone, allow screen to sleep
- Wake screen, before unlocking
- Player controls still remain
- Can be swiped away
- Repeat from 5.
