Cannot play any m4a files stored on my SD Card on Blackview BV9500Pro (Android 8.1)

Cannot play any m4a files stored on my SD Card.

Description

When I open any m4a file with VLC from the Amaze file manager, I get this

The location file:///storage/.../.../name-of-file.m4a cannot be played.

Please see the coming screenshots.

When I open any m4a file with mpv or with Simple Music Player, the m4a file plays just fine.

Expected behavior

VLC should play m4a audio file on my smartphone.

Actual behavior

VLC can not play m4a audio file on my smartphone.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the Amaze file manager (installed from F-Droid)
  2. Go to the external storage (/storage/ID-of-my-SDCARD)
  3. Open any m4a file and choose to open it with VLC
