<p>x264 is a free library for encoding H264/AVC video streams. <p>2005 December 26 -- x264 won <a href="http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/codecs-final-105-1.htm">Doom9's 2005 codec shoot-out</a>, passing Ateme by a hair.</p>
